Last updated: 27 April 2024

According to the United Nations (UN), China’s population began to fall in 2022. The UN estimates that China’s population reached its peak of 1.425 billion in July 2022 and then started to decrease. The UN projects that China’s population will drop to around half its current level by the end of the century.
