In its share of global growth over the last decade, Pakistan ranks 3rd. Yet, due to Pakistan’s already high average temperature, climate change – as for much of South Asia – will be a key challenge for this developing country. Moreover, its average temperature has been rising over recent decades.

Pakistan’s Possible Climate Calamity




The World Bank Group’s Country Climate and Development Report for Pakistan projects a possible 20% reduction in GDP by 2050. Rising temperatures due to global warming has already contributed to damaging extreme weather events. Catastrophic rain, linked to climate change, ravaged the agricultural sector in 2022, with flooding already estimated to have cost Pakistan’s economy £35 billion.
