The Governance Index is constituted by individual ratings for corruption, rule of law, press freedoms and political rights. Most of the decline was noticeably during the first term of President Trump (2017-2021). The USA dropped down 9 places in the global rankings during that same period. While the USA currently retains an A-grade rating, it is now in danger of being downgraded on the Governance Index to B-grade.
