45 Million Projected Fall in Working-Age Population of Russia and Neighbours 2000-2050


 
Russia and many ex-USSR countries are currently facing sharp working-age population contractions. Projections indicate that the 8 countries listed below will lose a combined 45 million individuals aged 15 to 64 between 2000 and 2050. The working-age populations of Moldova and Latvia are projected to halve!

This is a result of persistently low fertility rates in these countries, compounded by the mass emigration of working-age individuals to western Europe. More recently, the invasion of Ukraine has accelerated this massive displacement of working-age people.
